Oftentimes when widows are searching for support, they tend to look for recommendations of Therapist, Psychiatrist, or Grief Counsellors. Widow Coaches are still new but evolving and growing as the need to support and serve this community grows.
When you thought of widows you probably imagined a senior adult. The truth is young women between the ages of 26 – 59 are becoming “Young Widows”. Some losses are through unexpected cardiac arrest, suicide, terminal illness, murder, you name it. Young Widows have that one thing in common, a premature loss of a husband.
So, what is a Widow Coach? It is a coach that is a professional and a widow. I became a widow at the age of 38 in December 2018. Coming from a background of Social Work and 13+ years in the field I was not as interested in reaching out to a therapist or grief counsellor.
Going through that first year after my husband died, I learned transferrable lessons to help myself and other young widows. I was able to move beyond the grief and turn my tragedy into purpose.
What I know now that I did not know then is that there are actual certified widow coaches that are specially trained to coach widows through their grief and any challenge, they might be experiencing during this widow life journey.
The benefit in working with a widow coach is the coach understands firsthand what you are going through as a widow. Some widow coaches are certified coaches, and some are not, you decided which ones are a right fit for you.
I have learned however that it’s not enough for other widows to just get you, you need actual help in working through your grief so you can start to rebuild your life after the loss of your husband.
The journey of grief, financial hardship, feelings of loneliness, or simply trying to figure out who you are now after the loss of your husband is all common feelings amongst widows.
I wish when I was going through that first year without my husband that I had a Widow Coach. Truth is I did not know such a thing existed.
When my husband died it was sudden, and unexpected. I did not know how I would get through the first year. I more than just survived it.
I am passionate about helping you to rebuild your life around your mindset, finances, and friendships.
It is not easy to rebuild after the loss of a husband, but it sure is possible.
I would love to know if you have ever heard of a Widow Coach before. What are some questions you have about having a Widow Coach as a support versus a therapist?
